Indie Book Review – Wrapped in the Past by Chess Desalls

It’s time for another indie book review!. Read on and find out what Jay thought of ‘Wrapped in the Past’ by Chess Desalls.

‘Wrapped in the Past’ by Chess Desalls is a cleverly crafted time travel tale. It’s a Christmas story wrapped inside a Christmas story, and a book that is sure to appeal to smart readers of all ages. I have wanted to try listening to an audiobook for awhile; I have also been wanting to read one of Chess Desalls’ books. This was a great opportunity to do both. I enjoyed the voices of the storyteller and the author, and I thought they came together in a way that was easy and fun to listen to. Desalls brought the story to life with her creative look at time travel, and her diverse cast of relatable characters. Janine Haynes added her own unique touch, breathing new life into the tale with her colorful narration. The narrator played her own part in the telling, and it was a welcome addition.

The Story Behind The Stories #003 – Reviews

I have written books and product reviews in my head as far back as I can remember. Now that the books are finally getting out there, it only stands to reason that the reviews should follow. It has only been in the last couple years that I have realized how important reviews are, and how much they can mean to an artist or creator. I always thought that any comments I left would disappear into a black hole where no one would read them, and the creator would never know of them. I had no idea that a customer review can make an artist’s day, or encourage others to follow their work; and honestly, I thought customer reviews and testimonials were always fake. Read more

January News and Updates

2016 is starting off with a bang at Sudden Insight Publishing headquarters. We have several projects in the works at the moment, and thought you’d like to know just what we’re up to…

We’re getting ready to release our very first anthology, Paws for a Tale, on January 29th. This volume includes eight short stories that tie-in to a series or book that each author has previously published, but every single tale stands on its own. It’s a great way to get a little taste of what these authors write, as well as help a deserving charity. All profits from this book will be donated to the SPCA, as our way of saying thank you for all of the wonderful things they do for abused animals.

Paws for a Tale – Update and Cover Reveal

We’ve been hard at work getting the very first Sudden Insight Publishing charity anthology ready, and are so very pleased to finally be able to announce the release date (as well as the title)!

Paws for a Tale will be released in ebook format on January 29th, 2016. Inside it’s electronic pages you will find eight short stories from eight indie authors – Linda Deane, Adam Dreece, Beth Gualda, David M. Kelly, Megan O’Russell, Michael R. Stern, L.G. Surgeson, and our very own J.K. Norry. Each story is a little glimpse into the world of a book or series the author has already published, but never fear; every single tale stands on it’s own. We’re incredibly pleased with this set of stories, and we think you will be as well.

All profits from Paws for a Tale will be going to the SPCA (If you don’t know why we picked this charity, read Jay’s blog posts here and here).

And now, let’s get to that cover, shall we?

SIPCover

Our sincere thanks go out to David M. Kelly for designing the paw/heart artwork on the cover, and to all of the authors for their input on the title.

We’ll have more information on how to get your copy of Paws for a Tale soon, as well as details on the paperback release date. Stay tuned!

One week to go!

Hello there, friends! Dawn from SIP here, popping in to remind you all that there are just seven days left to submit your short story for our charity anthology benefitting the SPCA. We’ve received several great stories so far, but we know there are more out there, and we want to read them! This is a great way to promote your series or stand-alone titles, and help abused/homeless animals find a forever home at the same time. It’s a win/win for everyone!

So what are you waiting for? Send in that submission!

If you’re interested in submitting a story, or would like more information about this project, visit our anthology page here.

Sudden Insight wants you (for an anthology)!

The Indie Author community is all about support – sharing information, retweeting, cheerleading, giving a helping hand to a new author – that’s why Indies rock! We wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the the authors/designers/editors that took the time to write about their experiences and make tutorials for those who want to learn. The indie author community has helped us so much over the last two years that we’d like to pay it back. But how can we do this? Well, besides writing articles about our experiences (Jay will be blogging about outlines next week), we thought putting together an anthology might be a great idea.

What, an anthology? Yes, an anthology! Even better, an indie author anthology that benefits our favorite charity, the SPCA!

We’re looking for 8-12 indie/self published authors to participate in this project.

GUIDELINES:
The Theme: Tie-ins. This should be a story that ties in to a book or series that you’ve already published. We’d love to see stories that stand on their own, yet still entice the reader to try your series.
Word Count: 2,000 minimum, 10,000 maximum
Writing Style: Be yourself. No guidelines here.
Genre: Fiction. Beyond that, the sky’s the limit, although we’re going to say no to erotica this time around due to the charity we’re raising funds for.

We would love to have the participating authors contribute to the process, beyond just writing a story. We’ll be asking for input on the title, book cover ideas, marketing, etc. You can be involved as little or as much as you’d like. Any publishing costs for the book will be covered by Sudden Insight Publishing. Authors will retain all rights to their work – we’re not doing this to get the rights to your story, we’re doing this to help get your story out there, and to raise some money for charity while we do it.

MORE DETAILS:
Submission Dates: May 20th – July 31st UPDATE: Deadline is now August 31st!
Publication Date: We’re looking at a mid October, early November release date. While this will initially be released as an eBook, we are very open to getting a paperback version out as well, depending on participating author input. Every participating author will receive a free ebook copy of the anthology.
Royalties: All profits from this anthology will go towards ASPCA. Why? Read on…

Ximena

Ximena lounging on Jay’s lap.

Meet Ximena. She spent most of the first 3 years of her life tied to a rope in a backyard somewhere around Los Angeles, sad and alone. She managed to chew herself loose at some point in June of 2014, and once Animal Control caught her the euthanasia clock started ticking. Thankfully, she was picked up by a no-kill shelter before her execution date, and eventually moved to the Santa Cruz SPCA, which is where we met her in November of 2014. She had Jay at hello. We are eternally grateful to the SPCA for saving Ximena’s life, and for giving her a chance at happiness with a forever family. For Ximena, and for every other dog that’s had a second chance, we’d like to thank the SPCA by raising funds with this anthology.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in participating in, or if you have questions or comments, please email Dawn (dawn@suddeninsightpublishing.com). We look forward to your submissions!
