Welcome back! Last week I gave a brief overview of the three things every self published author needs to do before they hit the publish button. Today I’m going to talk a little more about editing, and why it’s one of the most important steps to take before you publish. Read more
Polish Before You Publish
The time has finally come. You’ve just typed “The End”, and now your great masterpiece of a novel is finished. Time to upload that sucker onto Amazon and hit the publish button. You’re on your way to becoming a literary legend!
Whoa there, Next Greatest Living Author Ever. Get your cursor off that publish button. I hate to tell you this, but you’re not even close to being finished. There are three more steps that you absolutely must take before you hit the publish button. These steps are crucial to insuring that your book is a quality product that readers are going to want to buy. Not taking these steps is the equivalent of giving birth, then leaving that newborn on your front steps and shouting “All right, go out there and make your parents proud!”. You wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing to a baby; why would you do that to your book? Your book that you slaved over, that you poured your heart into for days, weeks, maybe even years. Your words deserve so much more than that, so take the time to polish before you publish. Read more
Indie Book Review – The Wizard Killer by Adam Dreece
It’s time for another indie book review!. Read on and find out what Jay thought of The Wizard Killer, the latest book from Adam Dreece.
The Wizard Killer grabs you right away, and drags you from one scene to the next with wonderful ferocity. Adam Dreece had stepped smoothly from one style to another with this book, while continuing to build the layers of his ravaged steampunk world. This first-person moment-to-moment tale puts the reader right in the driver’s seat immediately; there is no time to pause, or go back, or set it down. The story is busy rushing forward, and one can’t help but rush forward right along with it.

Megan O’Russell’s The Tethering is an introduction to a tale that promises to be more compelling and interesting as it unfolds, while standing on its own as an exciting and magical tale in modern day.
The Story Between the Stories #004 – Sudden Insight Publishing’s 2016 Anthology

Dawn came up with a great idea last year. She suggested that we put together an anthology, solicit all the authors we could reach out to for submissions, and donate all of the profits to the SPCA. Our newest family member was a gift from their compassionate no-kill program. The love of our adorable little forever puppy prompted us to try to give back. The ebook version of Paws for a Tale is now available, and the print version is in its final stages of approval.
We learned a lot from Paws for a Tale. It was a wonderful experience overall, but there were definitely some unforeseen hurdles. Luckily, we specialize in learning here at Sudden Insight Publishing; we know that’s the best way to turn any problem into growth. So we learned; and in learning, we realized that we were really enjoying this whole ‘putting together an anthology’ process. Before the first was even close to done, we were already talking about how we could make putting the next one together a more user-friendly system for both us (referred to henceforth as ‘the publisher’) and the talent (referred to henceforth as ‘the contributor’ or ‘the contributors’).
